Report a pothole, win a prize. That’s the idea behind a new promotion by the city of Haverhill, MA.

Mayor James Fiorentini says residents who reported a pothole on a city street to the Public Works Department were automatically entered into a drawing for one of three $25 gift cards donated by local businesses. The contest ended on May 10.

He told The Eagle-Tribune that the idea was to get the bone-jarring, suspension-rattling holes filled within two business days of when they are reported. He says it’s a public safety issue.

Haverhill, like all New England cities, is dealing with the annual spring rite of dealing with large divots in the roads after a rough winter.
