This is My Message in a Bottle
A Salt Lake City woman says she was shocked to learn a bottle with a message she tossed into the Pacific Ocean in Southern California ended up nearly 6,000 miles away in Guam.
She threw it into the ocean from Oceanside Pier in San Diego County, Calif., three years ago, and it was found in early October by a student of science teacher Linda Tatreau at George Washington High School in Guam.
Tatreau’s classes visit the beaches of Guam to study the ocean, and the message in the bottle was opened during a ceremony in front of hundreds of students.
The 27-year-old Penrose told KSL that she threw the bottle with the message into the ocean while she was battling brain cancer and visiting family in California.
Penrose says she was “in total shock” and disbelief when she learned about its fate.
Her message contained a message about her life, her dog and even her cancer, which is now in remission.
